You can earn while you learn at MTEC!

At MTEC, we understand that everyone has different responsibilities. That’s why we offer alternative scheduling options to accommodate your unique needs. Our evening classes provide the same exceptional propane and natural gas training experience while still allowing you to work during the day.

The foundation of this program consists of two classes designed to provide a thorough understanding of gas-fired appliances, fuel storage and piping. The classes are an enhanced version of the National Propane Association’s industry-standard Certified Employee Training Program (CETP). While CETP is often taught as a textbook course, MTEC’s Fuel Board Approved training has expanded the curriculum to include hands-on training. Here are the core classes:

Appliance Connection & Service

Appliance Connection & Service is a four-week course that covers electricity, venting, and pipe fitting and prepares students to install and service gas equipment. The class also prepares students to take the Maine Propane and Natural Gas exam for Appliance Connection & Service (NFPA#54).

Students in this class receive a personal Samsung tablet with codebooks and other course material, courtesy of MTEC.

Tank Setter & Outside Piping

Tank Setter & Outside Piping is a seven-day course that covers the outside piping from the tank to the 2nd stage regulator. The course will also cover the proper tank distances relating to structures and information on bulk plants and dispensing stations. This class also prepares students to take the Maine Propane and Natural Gas exams for tank setter and outside piping technicians.

Additional training for Natural Gas and Propane technicians

Many MTEC students, as well as industry professionals needing additional training, pursue one or more specialty courses after completing the core curriculum. Here are the specialty training courses we offer, which also prepare students for corresponding Maine Propane & Natural Gas Exams:
