Households and businesses in Maine and throughout New England depend on efficient, well-maintained air conditioning, heat pump and refrigeration equipment. Demand for skilled A/C and refrigeration technicians is higher than ever and will only grow over time. The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that the HVAC-R industry will add more than 400,000 jobs this decade.
In only three weeks, the MEMA Technical Education Center can provide all-inclusive training to prepare you for a fulfilling career in A/C and refrigeration installation and service.
When you enroll in MTEC’s A/C and Refrigeration Certification program, you can access our knowledgeable instructors and 2,400-square-foot state-of-the-art hands-on training facility. Over three weeks, you will receive a comprehensive education on today’s high-efficiency cooling and refrigeration systems.
Not only that — you will receive the skills and support needed to get your EPA Section 608 Certification and all requirements to become a registered vendor through Efficiency Maine (to be eligible for heat pump rebates). We then help you connect with our 300 member companies. They count on MTEC to refer skilled, committed candidates.
Almost all our students find work right after completing the program—some even before they’re finished!
In short, MTEC provides more than A/C and refrigeration courses. We put you in a position to succeed and help you get into the room with HVAC-R companies eager to hire our students.
We divide this program into three parts.
In Part One, you will take the following classes:
Refrigerant Handling and EPA Certification
This class provides an overview of air conditioning processes and covers EPA Section 608 Certification (so that you can handle and purchase refrigerants). MTEC will help you schedule your EPA Certification exam and provide classroom space to take it. Receiving your EPA Certification is a crucial first step in qualifying for today’s in-demand A/C and refrigeration openings. If you’ve already received EPA Certification, you can proceed directly to the second part of the program.
A2L Refrigerant Handling
This hands-on course goes over regulations and safety for handling flammable refrigerants, including hydrocarbon and A2L refrigerants.
This is a five-day course that covers A/C and heat pump troubleshooting, including an in-depth look into the installation and service of today’s energy-efficient cooling equipment. We cover how to equip and remove gauges from machines and how to recover, evacuate, recharge and pressure-test refrigerant.
The 40-Hour Heat Pump Training covers the installation and service of today’s high-efficiency heat pump systems, including Mitsubishi, Samsung, Daikin and Haier products. This course meets the training requirements for you to become a registered vendor through Efficiency Maine and to be eligible for rebates.
When you put in the hard work to complete our A/C and Refrigeration courses, our instructors and administrators stay by your side to help you make the transition to full employment. What does that mean in practice?
Our 40-Hour Heat Pump Training can be taken as a stand-alone course if you already hold the EPA Section 608 certification.
We have a dedicated Commercial Food Equipment Service Training session that includes refrigeration training.
MTEC has a relationship with a high-quality hotel less than a mile from campus to provide lodging for students. There are also several financial assistance options you can take advantage of.
We know that embarking on a new career can be stressful. This is true whether you’re just entering the workforce or making a change to a new career track. MTEC is dedicated to being there for our students from the moment they schedule a tour until the day they get hired.
