At MTEC, we understand that everyone has different responsibilities. That’s why we offer alternative scheduling options to accommodate your unique needs. Our evening classes provide the same exceptional propane and natural gas training experience while still allowing you to work during the day.

The foundation of this program consists of two classes designed to provide a thorough understanding of gas-fired appliances, fuel storage and piping. The classes are an enhanced version of PERC PEP. MTEC recommends technicians to take both courses to complete their training. Here are the core classes:

Appliance Connection & Service

Appliance Connection & Service is a four-week course that covers residential interior electricity, venting, and pipe fitting and prepares students to install and service gas equipment. The class also prepares students to take the Maine Propane and Natural Gas exam for Appliance Connection & Service (NFPA#54 is the National Fuel Gas Code for interior services).

Tank Setter & Outside Piping

Tank Setter & Outside Piping covers the outside piping from the tank to the 2nd stage regulator. The course will also cover the proper tank distances relating to structures and information on bulk plants and dispensing stations. This class also prepares students to take the Maine Propane and Natural Gas exams for tank setter and outside piping technicians (NFPA#58 is the Liquefied Petroleum Gas Code for exterior services).

Many MTEC students, as well as industry professionals needing additional training, pursue one or more specialty courses after completing the core curriculum. Here are the specialty training courses we offer:
